I got into dog training professionally due to my passion for dogs, my love for interaction with them, and I have always had a desire to train service dogs to provide a positive impact to special needs individuals, and as a way of giving back to my fellow veterans struggling with PTSD. This inspired me to study professional dog training and dog behaviors at the CATCH Professional Dog Training School where I received my certification.
There is nothing more rewarding to dog trainers than seeing a dog respond to training, whether it be from a simple obedience command to more complex behavior modifications to unique service dog tasks. I currently have 3 dogs myself, German Shepherd Bella, my personal service dog which assists me in training efforts, and is a terrific calming dog to fellow canines with anxiety issues, Axle, a Saint Bernard/Bernese Mountain Dog mix. Axle, which is an Autism Service Dog. Creed, a young German Shepherd in training for Search & Rescue.
I'm a huge believer in positive reinforcement training which is pain free and stress free to the dogs. I'm also one that feels the owner/handler should be a part of the dog training experience (train the trainer). This is a requirement in service dog coaching. In most cases both dog and handler benefit greatly from this scenario. We like to call it training the "hooman" to make the dog's life better...
